Carla + Nick // Waiheke Island Wedding, New Zealand // Destination Wedding Photographer

Alastair and I were flown to New Zealand as She Takes Pictures He Makes Films to capture Carla + Nick’s stylish wedding, held on Waiheke Island… a little slice of pure paradise. Perfect beach after perfect beach, lush forests and glorious vineyards.

Carla + Nick (both Kiwi expats, now living in NSW) celebrated with their closest friends and family in a beautiful vineyard, after a morning of fishing and relaxing with friends at their respective rented baches (or shacks, as Aussies call them). The party lasted well into the night… and the next day. Possibly even the next day.

Look out for many appearances from their adorable little lady. What a squeezable face.

“I knew as soon as were engaged I wanted Lucy Spartalis and Alastair Innes to shoot and film our wedding.   I have never seen better wedding photography or footage than the thoughtful and sophisticated style in which they work.  We were blown away with emotion and gratitude when we received our photographs.  The attention to detail, even down to the packaging, to the imagery of our casual “before” shots, candid wedding guests having fun (a favourite for the album), the ceremony, food and formal photos.  They were able to capture the harsh New Zealand light and turn it into a series of soft, magical images throughout the day and into the night.  Through the photos and the film it’s almost as if Waiheke Island is another character in our wedding story – which we love! xx” – Carla + Nick

Jess + Rhys // A Laid-Back Country Wedding by She Takes Pictures He Makes Films

Jess + Rhys were hitched – in true laid-back country style – under a huge gumtree on Rhys’ dad’s farm, with a reception in a small community hall in Moorngag, Victoria. The couple and their guests camped in nearby fields, many games of cricket were played, and everyone pitched in (excuse the pun) to make it a relaxed, intimate and personal weekend.

They invited Alastair and I as She Takes Pictures He Makes Films to capture their story (we took our friend and lovely assistant John Possemato along for the ride).

We strolled through long grass, feasted on delicious food, danced in the dirt and gazed up at the stars by a giant bonfire…

Check out Alastair’s beautiful film and a few photo highlights from this lovely couple’s weekend.

Victoria + Edin // Werribee Mansion Wedding // Melbourne

I have become a social anthropologist.

It’s one of the most wonderful perks of photographing weddings; for a whole day, I step into the lives of other families and become part of one of their most treasured memories. I hear their music, try their food, learn about their history, what traditions they value, how they show their love… and on top of all of that, I have the honour of capturing it all.

Seeing two different cultures be tied together by love is extra special. When two people with families from different parts of the globe commit to each other and bring those families together, we realise how much we are all alike; and yet how much we can also all learn from each other’s stories.

Victoria is Australian-born Chinese, and Edin immigrated to Australia from Bosnia as a child. Both had family visit from their homelands to celebrate their wedding in the grounds of the Werribee Mansion. They paid tribute to Victoria’s heritage with a tea-ceremony, and danced into the night to traditional Bosnian dance songs.

Thanks to Linda Hampton for her wonderful assistance.

Sprucy Lucy, (Edin’s input)
When we first met you, we knew we had to have you as our photographer. You are fun, charismatic, relaxed and graced with worlds of talent. For a camera shy couple like us, we wanted our photos to be as candid and natural as possible.

We love that your style is about telling stories. Not just the big moments but also the small ones and how they all come together. Thanks for telling our story in such amazing imagery.

When Edin and I grow old and wrinkly, we’ll turn the pages of our wedding album and cherish the moments you’ve captured so honestly. Xo – Victoria + Edin
