Claire + the Antique Dress // Post Wedding Shoot

Fb-Button

A while ago I received a lovely email from Claire, describing her wonderful husband Jim and their beautiful wedding from the previous year, as well as her antique dress that everyone had fallen in love with. Handmade French lace predating WWI, the dress was purchased from a vintage dealer in San Francisco and altered to fit Claire perfectly.

Although there were many happy, candid and beautiful photos from their wedding, Claire told me she didn’t allocate enough time to a formal portrait session, and because of this she had never quite felt finished with the dress. She wanted a chance to pay tribute to her stunning find – and once she sent me a photo of it I could easily see why.

They took the opportunity to have a romantic weekend away, rented a cottage in the Dandenongs for the setting, opened a bottle of champagne, and invited me along one afternoon to help tell the dress’ story.

bianka Such a beautiful shoot. You really capture the essence of the couple and pay special attention to all the details. The lighting seems to reflect the love they have for each other. Warm and fuzzies all round!

Eric Ronald Brilliant use of light Lucy. Ace!

Loz + Shock.

I’ll let them tell you how their story started (an excerpt from their wedding invitation):

Loz and Shock met in a pub, where all good love stories begin. They danced to Mr Brightside and just like the song – it started with a kiss.

So how did it end up like this?

They kinda hit it off after that night, the Aussie backpacker and the Irish rogue. Don’t get me wrong, they had nothing in common. But yet, there it was. She thought he was tops. He thought she was a great craic.

As you know, this wasn’t in the plan.

He said, “I’m leaving to travel in November.”

She said, “I’m moving to Scotland after Christmas.”

“Let’s just have fun while it lasts.” (Famous last words).

And that’s just what they did. For the next three months. And then for 7 years after that. Across oceans and time zones and eventually, as roomies, they realised that sometimes when you know, you just know….

Alastair Innes and I were lucky enough to be there on their incredible day to capture all the whimsy, excitement and love that circled around these two gorgeous people. Held in Bendigo, Victoria – smack bang in the bush – there were teepees and paellas, a bar custom made by the groom (recreating the site of their first meeting), an enormous bonfire and a gypsy folk band, and beaming faces all around.

If you’ve enjoyed my collaboration with Alastair so far, you’re going to love his latest film. Featuring a soundtrack kindly provided by local acts Luluc and Rob Law, as well as American folk rock outfit Cereus Bright, this is something you’ll want to re-watch the second it’s over.

Scroll down for dozens of my favourite shots from the day. Huge thanks to the lovely Linda Hampton for all her help… and so much love to Loz + Shock x

From Loz + Shock:

OMG we love them we love them we love them!!
As luck would have it, Shock was driving me to work today so we got to sit down and watch them together straight away. They’re more than we ever could have have hoped for, and the video is just AMAZING! All of it is just brilliant.
We honestly could not be happier with what you guys did, and I can’t believe that we almost didn’t have that video!…it’s so incredibly detailed and it tells our story so beautifully. What’s even more amazing is there was no story board, no location scouting – you had never seen the property nor met us before the day. But you instinctively knew what would work and how it would flow and it’s like you crawled inside our heads and knew exactly what we would want. Even down to the music! As Shock just said (after our fifth viewing), “I will never get tired of watching this”, and I couldn’t agree more.
Thank you thank you thank you Lucy, Ali and Linda – because of you, we get to reflect on our wedding in the exact style we were hoping to – relaxed, creative and cool as heck. Loz + Shock xxx

BEK + LEE // Inglewood Estate Wedding // 2013

Fb-Button

Bek + Lee are blissfully, unabashedly and uncontrollably in love. Married at the charming and rustic Inglewood Estate in Kangaroo Ground, Victoria, these two young lovers would make anyone’s heart melt.

Bek looked incredible in her divine Karen Willis Holmes dress, and Lee’s Top Shop vintage-inspired suit was so very dapper. As a present to their guests, the couple had  their own newspaper designed, celebrating the story of their love! Such a clever touch. The rest of the details were delicate and sweet; the whole celebration looked like a soft pastel dream.

The couple made the unusual decision not to have a reception, for the sweetest of all reasons – all they wanted to do once they were married was to have a quiet dinner, just the two of them. *sigh*.

I was so lucky to have the chance to meet such lovely people, and capture such a pure and all-encompassing love. Thank you Bek + Lee x x x

Big love to John Possemato for his assistance… and rally driving.    …..                                           ……………………………………………………………….

admin Hi Kate,
I’ve only shot the one wedding at Inglewood, and the couple only had their ceremony there, so I can’t really help unfortunately… all I can tell you is that it photographed beautifully.
Good luck with your planning!

Kate Hi there, firstly your photos look absolutely amazing and you have given me so much inspiration!! My partner and I are also looking at booking at Inglewood for our ceremony and reception at the end of this year. I was just wondering if you had any further info on Inglewood (aside from the red carpet issue) how were they to deal with and most importantly how was the food at the reception? Thanks, Kate.

Rebekah Thankyou so much Lucy.. Just revisiting this post, and the photos still take my breath away. Thank you for capturing our day so beautifully.

Chelsea- We had the same problem with Inglewood Estate.. I wouldn’t recommend them because they told us we could decorate however we wanted (roll up the red carpet, remove the tropical floral arrangements in the back) however, only days before, they insisted we couldn’t change anything. We ended up covering the whole floor with Hessian material.. probably against their wishes. Good luck dealing with them!!

Kate@MagnoliaRouge What a gorgeous wedding and photos… her dress is stunning!!

admin Hi Chelsea, I think they covered it with a long roll of burlap. I’ll ask Bek for you and let you know.

Chelsea Love your work! My partner and I have just started looking at venues and the works for our wedding in late 2014. Not only do we love your work but we have also been looking at Inglewood for our wedding. Just wondering if you know what the couple used to cover the red carpet? Because that’s the main thing putting us off the venue!
