Anna + James // Portugal Destination Wedding, Quinta De Sant’Ana // She Takes Pictures He Makes Films

If it weren’t for Anna + James, Alastair and I may never have made it to Portugal.

If we could, we’d visit every corner of the globe – but the world is just too damn huge, and there are too many amazing places to see. Neither of us knew much about Portugal, and it might never have reached high enough on the list of ‘must-see’ places for us to make the time to visit; so thank god Anna + James decided to get hitched there. Portugal – WE LOVE YOU.

Anna + James’ destination wedding was part sightseeing holiday, part food-fest, part beachside getaway, part fiesta. They were joined by 80+ of their closest friends and family to celebrate in style in the quaint towns of Cascais and Mafra, basing their stay at the incredible fortress-come-hotel+artist community Pousada Cascais, and celebrating the wedding day in the charming canary yellow grounds of the  Quinta De Sant’Ana (the latter came with it’s own friendly flock of white doves. Of course it did.)

Gorgeous people, incredible atmosphere, a gypsy jazz band, wine tastings, a lifetime supply of cheese, and a rave cave.

This is how you do it.

Spain on Film

Alastair and I recently returned from a road trip through Spain (after shooting a spectacular wedding in Portugal – coming soon to the blog).  In what turned out to be the best decision I’ve made in a long time, I borrowed a Yashica Mat 124G from my friend Jason Lau, filled my bag with Kodak Tri-X and Ilford HP5 film, and set off to document our adventure the old fashioned way. I only wonder why it took me this long to rekindle my love of the analogue process.

Back at Photography school I shot film almost exclusively, but for the last 6 years I’ve worked only with digital. Getting back to this shooting style is like blissful photo-therapy; a chance to slow down, look, think, and make careful decisions at a steady pace.

Limited fine art prints available for purchase – contact me for a price list.

Amy + Craig // Edinburgh Gardens & Thornbury Theatre Wedding

Amy + Craig. Half of Melbourne’s four-piece shoe-gaze outfit Tender Bones. Excellent dressers and lovely souls; as hilarious and charming a couple as they come.

As usual, my clients are awesome.

These guys chose the Edinburgh Gardens as their ceremony space (saying their beautiful poetic vows in unison), and followed it with dinner and party times at the character-laden Thornbury Theatre. Super chilled with so many laughs – they made having a wedding seem very, very easy.

Keep an eye out for our little band shoot later in the post…

Thanks to Linda Hampton for her assistance. Full credits at the end of the post.

We are so glad we chose Lucy to capture our wedding day. For someone who is generally shy in front of a camera, wedding photos was actually the thing I was dreading the most when thinking about getting married! My fears were allayed from the moment Lucy and her assistant Linda walked into our house to capture us getting ready – we automatically felt so comfortable with them. Everyone has commented on how natural the photos are and Lucy captured such beautiful photos of the wedding party, our guests and also intricate little details of the venues that we otherwise would have missed. When our package arrived in the mail we went through all of the photos and re-lived the emotion of the day through her beautiful documentation. Lucy is amazingly talented at what she does and on top of that is an awesomely cool lady! Thanks Lucy! – Amy + Craig
